Is Mike Rowe the New Face of HVAC?

You probably know Mike Rowe as the host of Discovery Channel’s popular reality TV series, Dirty Jobs. On the show, Rowe works alongside employees whose jobs entail performing tasks and duties that many of us find disgusting. Past jobs have included “chicken buster,” “toilet crusher,” and “bug detective.” Now, Rowe is venturing into… HVAC?

That’s right. While he won’t be installing air conditioners or heat pumps himself any time soon, he’ll partner with members of the Direct Energy family of brands to promote the skilled trades industry. Together, the brands will donate $100,000 in scholarships over 12 months to the mikeroweWORKS Foundation. The foundation’s aim is to support future trade professionals with the technical training and skills they need to work in trades like electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.

Rowe will be the face of these industries in a forthcoming line of TV commercials, radio ads, and printed materials intended to educate the public about the benefits of a career in one of these industries. In a press release, he stated, “The goal of mikeroweWORKS is pretty simple—help close the skills gap by encouraging men and women to get the training they need to pursue good jobs that actually exist.”
