‘Today’ Show Gives Tips on How to Deal With the Allergy Season of 2015

Back in March of this year, allergist Dr. Clifford Bassett visited The Today Show and warned us all that the spring allergy season of 2015 would be one of the most brutal on record. He explained that pollen counts rise in the spring following an extremely cold winter season with lots of precipitation. That certainly sounds like the winter we just had!

In his segment, Dr. Bassett provided lots of easy tips for defending yourself and your household against dreadful allergy symptoms. Some of them include:

  • Retrofitting HEPA filters to existing central air and furnace systems
  • Purchasing single-room air purifiers
  • Using a hygrometer to detect mold and moisture levels indoors
  • Keeping humidity levels below 50%
  • Shampooing and washing your face at night to remove pollen that’s accumulated during the day
  • Filling your home with plants that naturally purify indoor air (e.g. English ivy, snake plant, ficus, and golden pathos)
  • Avoiding highly fragrant flowers (e.g. jasmine, gardenia, and lavender)
